Instrumented Long Walk

IWALK allows users to obtain gait measurements during long periods of walking.  In fact, over 40 gait metrics are automatically calculated during any distance or duration. Turning measurements can also be obtained.  Long walks allow additional gait parameters to be calculated, not possible with shorter distances, such as gait variability, coordination and asymmetry.

The IWALK plugin for Mobility Lab™ is the most comprehensive gait test offered by APDM. Users can choose walking distances from 7 meters, to 7 kilometers, or beyond. Each trial can be analyzed as a whole, against previous trials, or broken down to individual gait cycles to track mobility trends only found over long periods of time, such as effects of fatigue, pain, dizziness and other progressive symptoms. Set up and break down time take less than 5 minutes. IWALK was created for those who want results, without the hassle.

Measurement Protocol

This is the only plugin that does not have a fixed protocol. The one rule is that the subject must maintain a straight path so the algorithm does not artificially detect gait asymmetries. This test can be preformed anywhere, for any duration. As an example, the IWALK can be used to instrument the popular 3-minute walk test, or the 6-minute walk test, or the subject can continue to walk infinitely until symptoms appear.
